I've used SharePoint to build out our intranet and knowledge management base. The new SharePoint online is so easy to use and they have stunning templates to get you started.

Paul Corney for knowledge management

John Hovell for knowledge retention, organizational transformation, etc

Kurt Kragh Sorensen will know more on tools and integrations

More challenging response would be to drive the new Intranet from your organization's demand and not the IT team's desire to update it.

Internal users / customers could teach you a lot about their expectations from a new intranet as well.

The word "intranet" conjures up stale publishing pages, but a modern intranet is probably deeply linked into tools such as Teams etc to achieve more interesting and alive governance.  
Does anyone have recommendations of folks to talk to, who can help shape a brief?
