Re: Interview transcripts,

Matt Moore <innotecture@...>
Karen, Who writes up the transcripts - the interviewers, a professional transcription service or someone else? A professional service normally documents everything. Anybody else will make editorial decisions about what to include. The big question: is important information being left out of the transcriptions? Or is it just unimportant stuff? If there is important stuff being left out then you need to either communicate that to the transcribers or get someone more reliable to do it. From a user perspective, most readers prefer edited and structured text to unedited transcripts. Regards, Matt Moore +61 423 784 504

Interview transcripts,

Karen Campbell
Hi All,
I recently became responsible for reviewing interviews conducted with current and former employees for input into our repository. In listening to the audio from the interview I have noticed some discrepancies, and I wonder if this is normal for interview transcription. 1) There is a lot of cross talk, but the conversation is either not documented, or pieces are included as part of the interviewees reponse 2) Parts of what interviewee says are not documented in the transcript. Have any of you encountered this, and if you have, how do you normally handle it.

Al Simard Update
#personal
Simard, Albert <albert.simard@...>
This is as good an opportunity to let everyone in SIKM know that I will be retiring from the government on March 31st. I will keep in touch with the KM community through SIKM, LinkedIn, and SlideShare. For those of you who have my e-mail, it will now be: goldenunicorn@....
I don’t intend to stop working. I feel as though I’m doing some of my best work right now and I plan to continue. I have a couple of books to write, so I won’t be bored, but writing doesn’t pay much and it doesn’t pay at all for some time. So, I’m looking for gainful employment either as a consultant or term. Although there seems to be plenty of KM jobs available, they are usually in Boston, San Francisco, or somewhere in between. My problem is that we have a significant investment in a horse breeding farm near Ottawa, Ontario and I can’t really move. So, if anyone comes across a KM opportunity that doesn’t require moving from Ottawa, I’d sure appreciate knowing about it.
Thanks. This isn’t good-bye, just a change of coordinates in cyberspace.

Srinivas,
In terms of content curation in terms of an internal management approach, I haven't seen a lot that is effectively used on my client sites. The Department of Defense has a few tools that are wrapped up in an enterprise capability called MilSuite curation and strategic communication through milwire http://www.slideshare. net/milSuite/milsuite-overview there are other curation mechanisms but they are essentially at lower levels of the enterprise and targeted by domain. I don't think it is (tools per se) that you are after but if so here is a list http://www.prdaily.com/ Main/Articles/15_topnotch_ content_curation_tools_15378. aspx# that you may find helpful. I think there are a few approaches here more specifically target internal with market and domain alignment and market external with market and domain alignment along with general and strategic content feeds. I hope this helps! V/r, Howie

Srinivas I use Google sites (basically a wiki function and ability to add comments to each page) for student groups. Works very well and is intuitive to use including adding video etc (and is free).

I've looked at a shared (collaborative) curation approach for things like sharing / finding client and industry news. Ideally you'd want something that operated outside / inside (i.e. across news sources both inside and outside of an organization). The technology that most appealed to me (and I worked with them briefly) is: www.Spundge.com which has publicly available notebooks that can have shared curation and annotation (plus the ability to publish out to a website and or use as a platform for the "story" drafting and publication.
I think there is merit in this approach - but would need to be outside / inside and integrated into other "social" capabilities within the firm. Gordon Vala-Webb
