Need a case report
#case-studies
Jerry Ash <jash@...>
Hi All.
I am in desperate need of a good Case Report subject for the next issue of Inside Knowledge magazine. The deadline is just three weeks away. That's not unusual, but I do need a willing source (collaborator) now. Many of my reports have come from SiKM, thanks to Stan's recommendations. But it occurs to both of us that we might do as well or better if I just solicit help from volunteers. So, any volunteers? It actually involves about a week of email exchange for me to gather the basic info -- usually more than I need because it's more than I can "write down" in 2,000 words. But the results are spectacular in the magazine and often we make the cover. Please let me know of your interest and I'll send you a few samples of previous layouts and give you more details. Thanks. -- Jerry Ash *KM Coach * Special Correspondent & Consulting Editor Inside Knowledge (formerly KM) magazine/ ARK Group * Author, 'New Generation Knowledge Management' series * Founder, manager, Association of Knowledgework 1811 Atrium Drive Sun City Center, FL 33573 813.634.4397 813.634.6441 fax jash@kwork.org http://www.kwork.org (Ask me to trade Skype names)

September 2007 SIKM Call: Patrick Lambe of Straits Knowledge - The Kingdom of Taxonomy
#monthly-call
#taxonomy
Hi folks
This month's topic is "The Kingdom of Taxonomy" - as I can only attend the conference call for 30 minutes or so (it will be late at night here), I have prepared the slides in a video presentation in advance (in two parts) and posted them at http://tinyurl.com/2utcmv.
On the call I'll give a brief outline of what Straits Knowledge does, and talk about my book, Organising Knowledge. For those who've seen the videos by then I'm happy to answer questions, and we can continue the discussion via the list serve after that.
Looking forward to it!
Patrick

Just a note to all of you with almost too many communities to deal
with in your organization: Before anything else, consider yourself lucky! I am one of those (still the majority I'm afraid) that still desperately try to initiate the creation of communities! How much I would love to worry about things like how effective they are! I think I like Matt's question: "How would [your company] (or, for individuals, your role) be affected if your community stopped tomorrow?" Because that would force the comm. leaders to think of the time before the comm. existed (if he/she was around at the time) and how much things have improved since. Sanjay,
I'd agree that getting value-based metrics can be very powerful. I would also note that for communities this kind of data can be very hard to obtain beyond the anecdotal. We have doing an exercise around this with my current organisation (in the Australian public sector). Happy to discuss the outcomes of that off-line if anyone is interested. One of the more useful metrics is the value generated(cost savings,
time reduction, improved customer satisfaction etc) by the new practice. Leadership always wants to know what value they are getting from KM. This one very useful way. I have a few colleagues who have made some amazing presentations in Keynote and iMovie -- many self-running. I have been on the Mac for years, but have stuck with Microsoft Office on it. Looks like it's time to make a transition! [pardon the pun]
