Kate - ah, came to this thread late, and was reading backwards. I was wondering if your book was going to be mentioned!

Hi Ankur - James has far more up-to-date information than I do on this topic, but I'm curious...
Why opensource? No judgement, just curiosity. I'm wondering how attitudes/reasons for or against open source have changed since the early days of the intrusion of wikis and similar KM-ish started to intrude on the legacy KM tools world. /Dan

Matt - ah, good to keep re-running into you lately. Hello from Boston!
I always enjoy the titles of your posts - more than half the battle is to get people to read more than just the title/subject, eh? I'm planning on sitting in on this session. It's interesting times for all of us, especially those of us (cursed?) who believe we should be learning things from our past lessons, to avoid repeating them moving forward! (sigh) Sounds like Unhurried is a very different take on modern life - count me in! (slowly... ;) ) /Dan

At the KM Institute we teach a course on what is no doubt the most rigorous K Transfer approach. It was developed dating back to about 2006, and implemented/perfected in a number of major organizations. Two universities analyzed results and published results regarding the amount of critical K transferred:: Exit Interviews - about 10% Mentoring - about 67%, but focused on 1:1 K Transfer - about 91%, but focused on one to many, which is substantially more efficient as well. It was regularly offered in F2F mode and will be converted to both synchronous virtual and asynchronous self-paced modes this year. Douglas Weidner Exec Chairman, Chief CKM Instructor KM Institute

Back when I was working I was hired by a major power utility to create a km solution to mitigate aging workforce risk. Employee populations included 10,000 staff in back office and plant engineering/operations.
Happy to discuss further if that’s of interest. Tom Short Consulting All of my previous SIKM Posts

Hi Andrew, I work on KM with UNICEF. For me it would be too soon to share any learnings: I could only share what efforts we have been undertaking because of COVID-19. Having said that, I'd be really interested in your and your company's experience. I understand that this is an internal call: would there be a way to share the insights and outputs from the call? Best, Ivan

Knowledge Transfer - looking for a speaker for our internal company conference

Each October we have an internal ‘mini-conference’ on Knowledge Transfer (aging workforce, single point experts, etc.) and are looking for someone at a company who might be willing to spend 30-45 min with us on a virtual conference all. The topic we’re looking at would be “how KT tools/processes can be applied to current business challenges as a result of COVID, e.g., how has COVID impacted their KT efforts, etc.” Ideally it would be someone at a company that is actively working Knowledge Transfer where they could provide a 15-20 min overview of what they’re doing, and then we could have an open discussion/Q&A about how KT continues to apply during the continuing COVID environment. Thank you Andrew Muras, andrew.muras@...

Hank Malik's presentation/discussion on the KM program at Petroleum Development Oman was a robust case study of a particular industry/company - it had something for seasoned KMers, but would be quite helpful for those new to KM with guidance for approaches, tools and capabilities building.
If you missed the live discussion, I recommend listening to the recording and viewing the slides when convenient.

We’ve spent the last few months sitting at our computers, trying to work together on Zoom - and stay sane in the process. For many of us, it’s been stressful and exhausting. And it raises bigger questions about how to survive - and perhaps even flourish - in our technology-driven world. Based on Johnnie Moore’s work on Unhurried, this session explores ways of being more human, more embodied and wholehearted in our work. Participation will be invited. This session could surprise you. We re hoping that it will surprise us too. Johnnie Moore works as a facilitator and coach in the UK and internationally. He's helped managers and leaders at all levels to work more creatively and meet stressful challenges more resourcefully. He is co-author of the book Creative Facilitation and a visiting tutor on the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme.

July 2020 SIKM Call: Hank Malik - KM at Petroleum Development Oman
#monthly-call
TO: SIKM Leaders Community
Today we held our 179th monthly call. Here are the details.
Group Chat [7/21/2020 11:17:21 AM] Tom Barfield: I agree - business pilot approach is the way to get started. At some point there is probably a need for a hybrid top down and business focus needed. [7/21/2020 11:24:41 AM] Ginetta: So @Hank you found the KM team within your organization. You did not have the need to hire someone from outside. Is that correct? [7/21/2020 11:33:23 AM] Stan Garfield: N Cs of Topic X [7/21/2020 11:37:47 AM] Pavel Kraus: In our SKMF.net roundtable discussions on securing KM jobs, we ended up with the strategy of linking KM activities directly to value creation. That makes KMers indispensable. [7/21/2020 11:38:44 AM] Andrew Trickett: Hank a good database, are you able to do some weeding so that the lessons are still relevant to peoples day to day work.? [7/21/2020 11:39:27 AM] Ginetta: @Hank: slide 15/16 -> did you create specific task force (with x number of people) for each KM component? [7/21/2020 11:39:27 AM] Ginetta: @Hank: slide 17 -> how did you create the KPI? Where did you get those numbers to say "increased % of..", "Reduced time ...". Did you use IT backend data or survey or? [7/21/2020 11:49:18 AM] John: congrats again on MIKE! :) [7/21/2020 11:49:29 AM] Ginetta: Great work Hank! [7/21/2020 11:49:29 AM] Ginetta: Thank you for sharing! [7/21/2020 11:51:31 AM] Luis Suarez: Hi Hank, if you were to start today with PDO's KM programme (as opposed to 4 years ago), what would you have done different and why? [7/21/2020 11:51:46 AM] Ginetta: @Hank: when you went to the board of directors did they say you "wow go ahead , here you are the funds, the people, etc"? Or did you get some resistance? Can you share with us a couple of tough questions and the winning answer you provided? [7/21/2020 11:56:09 AM] Luis Suarez: Thanks, Hank, for the answer! :) [7/21/2020 11:56:09 AM] Luis Suarez: Thanks much, indeed, for the presentation, Hank! That was really inspiring! Well done! Dear SIKM Community,
Earlier this year, Stan and other community leaders launched the Community Managers/Champions project. You can read more about it on pages 4-6 of the SIKM Blueprint. The first community managers, Aprill Allen and Ivan Butina, have kicked off the project impressively and we are very grateful for their support.
