SharePoint is a pretty easy to use extranet. If you set it up properly from the start, then it's a good km tool. Takes time though and architecture design.

The first question is which generation does your present intranet belong to? First generation - brochure ware, second - partly process orientated or third process savvy.

Totally agree - unless you're looking to simulate/model the flows, that kind of representation is heavy-handed. I've had some good success using simple system mapping in Miro and Kumu,

I haven't used it since I modeled the KM Methodology in the late 1990s, but it is extremely robust.
