A successful Gartner IT Professionals Collaboration and Content Research Director possesses deep IT-related experience as an implementer, strategist, architect, or product manager. The candidate will have strong long-form (15-40 pages) writing skills and demonstrated experience in analyzing business problems for solutions that involve (in part) technology, identifying trends in or impacting technology, shaping product or marketing strategy, or defining conceptual architecture. A Research Director initiates and executes work independently and with consistent quality, has superior project management, analysis and writing skills, and is comfortable with IT staff to CXO-level client contact in all aspects of research delivery and support (inquiry, sales support and delivering presentations, etc.). Specifically, the candidate must:
Possess deep experience in one or more of the following fields:
o Social software (includes social networking, blogs, wikis, activity streams)
o Enterprise content management (includes search, taxonomy)
o Mobile productivity (includes use of e-mail, productivity suites, messaging on mobile devices)
Perform research in areas of expertise by reading, networking with clients, vendors and analysts, evaluating and analyzing information, and participating in Research Meetings and other activities which comprise the Gartner research process
Create specified volumes of written research (e.g., assessments, reference architecture templates, contextual research findings, market profiles) in fulfillment of our commitment to clients
Answer telephone and e-mail inquiries from clients in covered topic areas
Create and deliver face-to-face, teleconferenced, and recorded presentations to clients
Provide individualized consulting for clients, which involves presentations regarding Gartner research and findings to individual companies or providing advice to a user or vendor client for a day or two
Provide sales support by speaking to prospective and existing clients via telephone, by making face-to face sales calls with sales personnel and by delivering speeches at "prospectors" (half-day seminars whose purpose is attracting prospective clients)
