"Workplace laboratories" may bring to mind images of white coats and test tube but it refers to a mindset and style of working that uses experiments to improve environments and outcomes. Our speakers will draw on their own experiences and research t discuss:
- How to effectively design organisations and manage work to maximise potential for improvement
- The challenges and opportunities of such an approach
- How to experiment in a complex environment.

Amanda Lizier is a workplace learning researcher and practitioner who creates a conduit between theory and practice. Amanda is passionate about using cutting-edge research to improve learning and development systems and practices. As a highly regarded learning and development practitioner, Amanda has extensive experience in all aspects of learning and development across an array of industries. Her practical experience informs her work as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney where she uses complexity theory to explore the practices of work and learning in organisations.

Shawna Murray is the Organisational Development and Learning Manager - Transformation & Strategy with Coal Services. She has considerable experience using Human Centred-Design as a way to find solutions to problems and drive strategic goals. Shawna ha​s worked in London, Dubli​n and Australia and had varied roles involving design of innovative learning solutions, organisational change & leadership projects, Instructional Design transformation projects, and lecturing at University on Learning and global Social Policy. She has qualification​s in project management, teaching, ScrumMaster, instructional design, change and a Master of Education, in Adult Education and Training.

Catherine Raffaele is an educator, researcher and an edtech founder. She is based at UTS where she teaches into the MEd (Learning & Leadership) and is completing a PhD on entrepreneurial learning. She was previously a Senior Researcher at the Workplace Research Centre (University of Sydney) where she established the Sydney Health and Work Research Network. While there, she worked with the federal government to develop its telework initiative to widen workforce participation and inclusion. She has also led IT and Communications Policy at CHOICE.

Michelle Ockers works with leaders who want learning to make a bigger impact in their organisation. Her core expertise is organisational learning strategy, capability uplift for learning teams, and continuous learning skills and practices. Michelle is the Australian Institute of Training and Development’s 2019 L&D Professional of the Year. She also received the 2019 Internet Time Alliance Jay Cross Memorial Award for outstanding contribution to the field of informal learning.
