Each October we have an internal ‘mini-conference’ on Knowledge Transfer (aging workforce, single point experts, etc.) and are looking for someone at a company who might be willing to spend 30-45 min with us on a virtual conference all. 

 The topic we’re looking at would be “how KT tools/processes can be applied to current business challenges as a result of COVID, e.g., how has COVID impacted their KT efforts, etc.”  Ideally it would be someone at a company that is actively working Knowledge Transfer where they could provide a 15-20 min overview of what they’re doing, and then we could have an open discussion/Q&A about how KT continues to apply during the continuing COVID environment. Thank you

Hi Andrew,

I work on KM with UNICEF. For me it would be too soon to share any learnings: I could only share what efforts we have been undertaking because of COVID-19. Having said that, I'd be really interested in your and your company's experience. I understand that this is an internal call: would there be a way to share the insights and outputs from the call?

Back when I was working I was hired by a major power utility to create a km solution to mitigate aging workforce risk. Employee populations included 10,000 staff in back office and plant engineering/operations.


Over course of two years we developed a pretty robust suite of tools and approaches that were tuned to the varying needs and situations that existed across the target populations.

At the KM Institute we teach a course on what is no doubt the most rigorous K Transfer approach. 

It was developed dating back to about 2006, and implemented/perfected in a number of major organizations.

Two universities analyzed results and published results regarding the amount of critical K transferred::
Exit Interviews - about 10%
Mentoring - about 67%, but focused on 1:1
K Transfer - about 91%, but focused on one to many, which is substantially more efficient as well.

It was regularly offered in F2F mode and will be converted to both synchronous virtual and asynchronous self-paced modes this year.
