Ideas for knowledge month #selling #adoption
Hi all,
I’m looking for suggestions and ideas around what KM team could do for an upcoming knowledge month! While my team brainstormed around show n tell, writing a white paper, organising hacks thins…. I wanted to know if there are some other activities anyone of you have done in past that lead to driving more business to the team and/or creating more awareness about KM and why one needs it? Thanks in advance! Regards, VW -- Vandana W |

Hi Vandana, I am not sure i have enough information to advise (for example in which departments you have KM implemented) but one of the things i have done in the past to create more awareness and adoption was a treasure hunt using our knowledge base. I seeded clues in different Knowledge base articles that lead to more clues outside of a KB (physical clues that made people stretch their legs running and looking for clues- with the remote working now, you might want to skip this part), then back to a KB and users needed to follow the "breadcrumbs" and find the ultimate treasure. It was a huge success and definitely raised awareness. You can make an event out of it with prizes and leaders congratulating the winners. You can also plan the clues to be educational on KM. I’m no longer there or leading the KM program, but the Fluor annual Knowvember celebration included a KM Pacesetter peer recognition program, specialized training / presentations, and a KM success story campaign. My team would compile approximately 10 of the 60-80 stories submitted and create an Executive Judging pack. We would identify three or four top level execs to judge and and also ask them to provide a quote on what they thought of KM and the success stories. The submitters of the winning stories chose a charity and the company made a donation, reinforcing the importance of being good citizens in the communities we live and work in. The result was great success stories and exec quotes we could use to continue to promote KM across the organization. To echo what John said, Vandana - showcase examples from the business of the use and application of KM and the value this delivers. "KM User stories", told by the users themselves, are likely to be far more engaging than any direct promotion of the work of the KM team.

The Fluor Knowvember program was genius for many reasons. It encouraged people across the organisation to participate in knowledge projects (increasing awareness greatly) It provided incentives in a constructive way to actively implement principles of KM and the share the stories of these widely It actively engaged people at higher levels in the organisation in the knowledge initiatives It provided external social value for those most effective in delivering outcomes for the knowledge projects. It highlighted tangible and intangible results of knowledge activities on a global basis. I believe this is why Fluor deservedly won several MAKE awards around that time. I mentioned this program briefly in a case study about Fluor in Being a Successful Knowledge Leader (2009) Arthur Shelley Principal: www.IntelligentAnswers.com.au Founder: Organizational Zoo Ambassadors Network Mb. +61 413 047 408 Twitter: @Metaphorage LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/arthurshelley/ Author: KNOWledge SUCCESSion Sustained performance and capability growth through knowledge projects Earlier Books: The Organizational Zoo (2007) & Being a Successful Knowledge Leader (2009) -----Original Message-----
